Vestaleon: Bioluon reference

Bioluons are a species of amphibian dragonoids that originated in the large lake Avenier (near Molian and Velian) and evolved for a more amphibious life. They developed lungs and moved to the land, their dorsal fins became smaller and smaller until they ended up being what you see now. The fins themselves are retractable and the Bios will often keep them in their body, but some individuals aren’t able to retract them even in humanoid form.

The gills are kept closed when they are on land, and open when they swim. Because of their evolution, they’re not very fast swimmers, but their tail and fins can still be pretty useful for moving in the water. They are wingless, thus they’re not capable of flying.

Bioluons are usually in dark and water-y tones, but white and light blue bases are also common, as well as any dark and off-black base. Marking types are unlimited, as they can be pretty much anything: squares, shapes, spots and stripes, you name them you can have them. Marking colours are also a lot more varied than the base ones.

Bioluons always have bioluminescent areas on their body, in which the flesh is more bulbous and less thick. When the blood is pumped through these areas, they will glow in whatever colour they are. Bios can control the bioluminescence. This special ability was once used to attract fish and various underwater prey. Now it’s basically useless.

They can have bone or flesh spikes all over their bodies, in different places. The most common are the head, neck, elbow and hip area, though it’s not limited to that.

In their humanoid form, the Bios will keep the fleshy nubs above their ears, the dragon-like small ears, tail and bioluminescent areas (aside from the ones near their eyes). They will also maintain the markings and colours of their dragon form, as well as the flesh / bone spikes - although shorter and less sharp - and in some cases the fins.

In their dragon form, the average height is 6'5'' at the shoulder. They're one of the largest sentient species on Vestaleon.

IMPORTANT - the second “eye” is a bioluminescent area. Bios cannot see with them.
